Aquarium Plants

My views, Steve Hampton, on how to succeed with aquarium plants

Glosso (Glossostigma elatinoides)

Common Name: Glosso

Scientific Name: Glossostigma elatinoides

Pronounciation: gloss-oh-STIG-muh el-a-ty-NOY-deez

Family: Scrophulariaceae

Origin or Range: Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania

Type of Plant: Stem

Difficulty: Moderate

Area of tank best suited for: Foreground

Light Requirements: Moderate to Bright

Propagation: Runners or lateral shoots

General Plant Notes: One of the best and most attractive low growing creeping carpet plants. Glosso does best with CO2 injection and an ample supply of nutrients. Given these conditions Glosso will grow well even under moderate lighting although it may occasionally grow vertically too much. The vertical grow can be stiffled completely under high light and CO2 injection. Once established this plant grows quickly and fills in the foreground and it then becomes necessary to "thin" out the Glosso or it will "pile up" and look much less attractive as it grows on top of itself.
