Common name or synonym: African Water Fern

Scientific name: Bolbitis heudelotii

Pronunciation: bol-BY-tis hew-de-LOT-ee-eye

Family: Lomariopsidaceae

Origin or range: Africa

Type of Plant: Rhizome

Difficulty: Moderate

Area of tank best suited for: Midground to Background

Plant light requirements: Low

Propagation: Lateral shoots and rhizome division

General plant notes: This is one of those few plant species that definately seems to show and grow best in soft water. It also does much better planted in an area of the tank that receives lots of current, so plant near a filter outlet is a good choice. It also appears to thrive in water that has 1-2ppm of phosphate and stalls in growth in phosphate limited situations.
